Johannesburg – In partnership with Humanitarian Organisation Ashraful Aid, The Lions Cricket family aims all efforts to assist the City of Joburg’s dire poverty challenges. Set to launch on Friday 1 July, as part of Nelson Mandela Month, the “Fill up Imperial Wanderers with food and hygiene hampers” call-to-action campaign will rely on the goodness of the Lions Pride people and public at large to reach out to 32,000 families.

Lions Cricket Head of Marketing, Commercial and Communications, Wanele Mngomezulu explains how the campaign will work;

“Via TicketPro, Lions Cricket will sell virtual tickets at a cost of R120 per seat – which will be used to purchase 1-week food and hygiene hamper for a family of four. We’re also appealing to our valued corporates who can purchase a R10 000 virtual suite, resulting in one week relief for 80 families. In an odd turn of events, we’re hoping to have a “empty”, yet sold out 32 000-seater stadium, that will provide 144 000 family members some much needed relief during Winter. We would like to thank Ashraful Aid, TicketPro, media partners as well as all participating fans and partners for this initiative. We are looking forward to opening our gates and warmly welcoming ticket holders to spend their time pack 67-hampers on 18 July on the iconic Imperial Wanderers Stadium field.”

“We are grateful to partners Lions Cricket, Imperial Wanderers Stadium and TicketPro” for enabling this initiative to be hosted on 18 July. Ashraful Aid is motivated by the words and actions of Madiba, who once said: ‘It is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it.’  By supporting our Mandela Day campaign, YOU can help make a positive difference in the lives of others.” Moulana Suhail Wadee, Director, Ashraful Aid.

Be part of the 67-minutes for Mandela and join Lions Cricket on 18 July from 10h00 at Imperial Wanderers Stadium. All hampers will later be donated to various families, other Non-profit Organisations within Gauteng including Early Development Centres, Child headed homes and more.
