STELLENBOSCH: With only one round left in this year’s Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Cubs Week, there are still five teams who stand a chance to be crowned champions at the conclusion of the final day in Stellenbosch.
No team is still unbeaten, and it is only the Central Gladiators who don’t stand a chance to walk away with the spoils. They will be searching for their first victory of the tournament on the final day.
The Coastal Conquerors managed to end the defending champions, the Southern Superstars’, unbeaten status on the Coetzenburg Oval with a convincing victory of seven wickets.
The Conquerors’ Chad Laycock (78*) and Banele Cele (47*) shared an unbeaten 116-run partnership over the fourth wicket to see their team home. The Conquerors moved to the top of the log with this victory.
The Superstars could only manage 164 runs before being bowled out. Tyler Williams (46*), Jesse Prodehl (46), and Maahir Joseph (32) made the biggest contributions for the losing side. Thabiso Ndlela grabbed four wickets for only 27 runs for the Conquerors.
The Eastern Warriors kept their chances alive to bag the title with a convincing victory of 169 runs over the Western Legends on Maties’ C-field. The Warriors’ Cameron Williams (95) and Ben van der Merwe (72) laid a more than a solid foundation with an opening partnership of 158 runs.
The Legends’ JP King continued his good form thus far during the week. He was his side’s best bowler bagging four wickets at the cost of 35 runs, before also top scoring with 42 runs while wielding the willow.
Akhona Ratyana picked up four wickets for only 27 runs as the Legends fell well short reaching only 155 runs.
The Northern Champions steamrolled past the Central Gladiators by eight wickets. The losing side was bundled out for a mere 87 runs with Amaan Khan (4/13) and Arnaud du Plessis (3/36) causing most of the damage
