On the 21st of May 2022, a group of fun loving and enthusiastic athletes will be taking to the streets of Gauteng as they raise funds and awareness for CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA. CHOC supports children and teenagers who are fighting cancer or a life-threatening blood disorder, as well as their families by offering several programmes to support them on their journey. While the youth fight a battle that they never chose to be a part of, our athletes will be fighting for them as they ride 100kms and run 21kms in this grueling event.

Steve Saunders, one of the organisers has said: “The 2021 Biathlon was an amazing experience. Being the inaugural event, we had little idea of just how challenging it would be. The concept sounded manageable in theory. To face all those climbs, all those kilometers, and all that time fighting to keep the pace up took almost everything I had. That was the point: Setting up a unique challenge that none of the endurance athletes has done before, and we would do it for charity.

To finish the event was truly rewarding. I was physically exhausted but emotionally charged up! I am looking forward to another amazing day on the 21st of May 2022 as we take on the challenge. I would also like to thank our committed partners who have once again come on board due to the success of last year, Imperial Wanderers Stadium, Planet Fitness and Imperial Logistics, Kia Cars and Mantis Security who always give back to charity and make a difference in the lives of others.”

The CHOC Biathlon will see athletes of all fitness levels challenge themselves by riding 100kms from Planet Fitness Olympus in Pretoria to the Imperial Wanderers Stadium in Illovo. They will then leave their bikes behind and don their running shoes for a 21km dash through the hilly streets of Johannesburg.

These athletes are everyday non-professionals who simply love to challenge themselves while raising funds for a greater cause. All money raised will go directly to CHOC and will help make a difference in the lives of the children and teenagers fighting cancer or a life-threatening blood disorder.
