Johannesburg, 2 May 2023 – The Blind Cricket South Africa (BCSA) One Day Cup is a 40 over competition consisting of the top 4 Provincial teams which go head-to-head in a 3-Day league in order to determine the 2023 champions.

Taking place at Pirates Cricket Club as well as Voortrekker Park, the 4 teams of Boland Blind Cricket, CGL Blind Cricket, Northwest Dragon Blind Cricket and Western Province Blind Cricket battled it out to claim top spot.

First up was Boland Blind Cricket, who fell short of the 304/4 posted by Lions Blind Cricket, thanks largely to the massive contribution of 177 by Buhle Bhidla.

Next was the turn of NW Dragons Blind Cricket, who posted 162/6. Lions Blind Cricket chased down the revied target without loss.

The last win for Lions Blind Cricket came over WP Blind Cricket, successfully chasing down the 126 all out, with 7 wickets to spare.

With three wins from three, it was Lions Blind Cricket who took the honours, amassing a total of 17 points including 5 bonus points.

Central Gauteng Blind Cricket Chairman, Isaac Bidla, is delighted with the teams unbeaten record;

“What a super team effort – we gave it our all and come home holding the treasured trophy. We thank Lions Cricket for their ongoing support and are proud that we can show the Union, fans and our communities that we not only appreciate the backing, but that we are the champions of the 40 over format through and through! What a tremendous tournament: A huge thank you to all involved.”

Lions Cricket Head of Cricket Services, Reuben Mandlazi smiles;

“Our Lions Blind Men never cease to amaze me. Every single time that ball is in their hand and they don the Lions Cricket badge, they perform. They perform with an admirable passion and determination, leading by example. This team is an asset to our organisation. Well done to all those involved and congratulations on bringing the trophy home!”

Extended congratulations go to Lions Blind Cricket player Buhle Bhidla for Best B2 Player of the Tournament.

The win draws to a close an extremely successful Lions Cricket season – one that will be celebrated wholeheartedly, at the upcoming Lions Cricket Awards evening.
