28 November 2023, Johannesburg – Lions Cricket are proud to welcome their newest teammates in former players Trisha Chetty and Allan Donald.

Adding to the already impressive coaching contingent at the DP World Lions, Chetty has been working hard at the Pride as the High Performance wicket keeper coach with Allan Donald now joining as the bowling coach.

35 year old Trisha Chetty made one hundred and twenty limited-overs appearances for South Africa between 2007 and 2022. Since her retirement from all forms of cricket in March this year, Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright said she was in his sights and knew that this substantial resource would be put to great use by the teams at the DP World Wanderers Stadium;

“Lions Cricket is honoured to have Trisha on our coaching staff as our high performance wicket keeper coach. You cannot get any better when it comes to keeping wicket and she will enhance the lives of so many – from pipeline to professional, on and off the field.”

Chetty says she is extremely grateful to the CEO for giving her the opportunity to remain in the game she loves so much;

“I look forward to the journey ahead and am thrilled to be a part of the Lions family. I love being able to give input into the next generation of wicket keepers and am looking forward to working with the whole coaching staff. I believe that collectively we will be able to create an environment where players will learn and grow and became the best they can be.”

When welcoming Allan Donald, Jono Leaf-Wright says that even he is at a loss of words for a suitable introduction for one of the country’s best ever bowlers;

“Allan Donald needs no introduction, nor does he need a justification as to why it is our honour to have him join our Pride. The powerhouse of the former Protea brings with him immense skill; patience; commendable coaching experience and is an all-round good guy that will bolster our bowling attack significantly.”

Allan Donald, who ironically made his Free State debut at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in 1985 against the mean machine lead by the legendary Clive Rice, is as enthusiastic as Chetty;

“I’m super excited to be joining the DP World Lions family today.  It is even better now to be going back to the DP World Wanderers Stadium in a coaching capacity – many years later and adding value to a very exciting DP World Lions Bowling outfit. I look forward to sharing my thoughts, values and experiences spanning many years of playing and also coaching at the highest level. It will be terrific to be back with Russell Domingo, Hashim Amla and Prasana Agoram all of whom I shared a dressing room with for four years under the Proteas. Another awesome challenge and journey awaits.”

Both Chetty and Donald will extend their services across the Pride ensuring that the youth are inspired and the professionals perform.
