22 August 2024

Thursday the 29 August, will see the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium open its arms to all ladies from far and wide, to enjoy a mid-morning picnic, courtesy of Lions Cricket.

To celebrate and pay tribute to those who fought for womens rights in 1956, Lions Cricket will host an array of ladies from the Hubs, u16 teams, u19 teams, DP World Lions Ladies team, partners and members of the Board.

“We are delighted to invite all our special ladies as we celebrate The Sheroes behind our Heroes as a curtain closer to women’s month,” so says Lions Cricket Corporate Social Responsibility Specialist Zethu Kaka. “It’s important to our Pride that we recognise women within the cricket space as well as those outside of it: For all that they have achieved and for all that they inspire others to believe. We also strive to inspire upcoming players to dream big despite their cultural and economic challenges. Those who know Lions Cricket, know of our commitment to grow women’s cricket – and by that we mean not only the game, but also of the opportunities off-pitch. By having some of our DP World Lions ladies present, we hope to educate others on life as a professional athlete, whilst at the same time celebrate those who have played a role in the lives of our Pride members such as the mothers, grandmothers and caretakers.”

During the morning of the picnic, a 5 overs game will be played, SHEROES against HEROES, with the boundary fence being made up of sanitary towels.

“Our messaging will be about breaking down the boundaries and ending period poverty for our girls,” Says Kaka. “Upon conclusion of the event, sanitary towels will be distributed to our hubs.”

True to #Lionscares, The Pride of Jozi continues to encourage our fans to donate a pack of sanitary pads at DP World Wanderers Stadium this month – to help keep our girls in school. Lions Cricket would like to thank all the partners and sponsors who have actively jumped on board to help make this day a huge success.
