Strategic partnership set to strengthen cricket development across Africa.
Lions Cricket are proud to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), marking the beginning of an exciting collaboration focused on accelerating the growth, development and advancement of cricket in Tanzania and across the African continent.
As one of Africa’s leading cricket unions, Lions Cricket have entered into the partnership with a shared vision of creating meaningful development opportunities that will benefit both organisations, while strengthening the game’s future throughout the region. Some of those present in signing the agreement at the Tanzania Cricket Association included the President of Lions Cricket Dr Earl Glennistor; ICC Chairperson Jay Shah as well as DP World Lions bowling coach and Protea legend, Allan Donald.
Also present at the MoU signing was CSA Vice President and ICC Board Member, Dr Moosajee, who said;
“This historic occasion marks the beginning of an exciting joint venture between Lions Cricket & Tanzania Cricket, laying the foundation for a strong and mutually beneficial partnership.
The collaboration will focus on strengthening cricket development, creating opportunities for player & coach exchanges, sharing expertise, and fostering closer sporting ties between South Africa & Tanzania. Lions Cricket & CSA look forward to working closely with Tanzania Cricket as both organisations embark on this new chapter together. The partnership reflects a shared commitment to growing the game across the continent and unlocking new opportunities that will benefit players, administrators, and cricket communities in both countries for years to come”.
Echoing Dr Moosajee’s sentiments, Dr Earl Glennistor said that extending the reach of cricket beyond the boundaries of DP World Wanderers Stadium and the DP World Lions has always been a key priority for the Union.
“Partnerships such as this play a pivotal role in making the game accessible to more people. By sharing knowledge and uncovering new talent, everyone benefits. It is truly a win-win, and we are tremendously excited to see what this partnership will bring for both Associations.”
The Memorandum of Understanding outlines several areas of potential collaboration, including coach education and development, knowledge sharing, high-performance support, player exchange opportunities, and the placement of talented Tanzanian cricketers within the Lions Academy. The partnership will also explore the opportunity of hosting the Lions professional squad in Tanzania for pre-season fixtures and training camps.
Lions Cricket CEO Jono Leaf-Wright says the agreement reflects the Union’s commitment to sharing its expertise and contributing to the continued growth of cricket beyond South Africa’s borders.
“Lions Cricket has the expertise, people, facilities and high-performance environment to support the Tanzania Cricket Association across a number of key areas, including coaching, player development, high performance and strategic advisory services. Initially, we have agreed to a pilot period that will allow both organisations to assess the practical benefits, operational requirements and long-term potential of this partnership. We are incredibly excited about what lies ahead and look forward to walking this journey alongside TCA as we work together to develop better cricketers and, ultimately, better people.”
Through this collaboration, both organisations aim to create sustainable development pathways, strengthen cricketing excellence across the region, and foster closer relationships between two ambitious cricketing nations.
