Johannesburg – 3 April 2025: Three of the Lions Cricket emerging women’s players have successfully signed up for Degree Programmes at Richfield, commencing immediately.

Since 2020, the higher education outfit known as Richfield Holdings, have invested significantly into the education and future well-being of both the Central Gauteng Lions players as well as staff.

Last week, Lethabo Bidli (19), Neo Molefe and Thuto Thibedi (both aged 18 years old) were accompanied to their orientation by Lions Cricket, providing support and ensuring a smooth transition. This marks the first intake of female players in this initiative.

Teboho Ntsukunyane, Lions Cricket U19 & Emerging Women Head Coach says that this is so much more than just an academic opportunity;

“This is testament to Lions Cricket’s commitment to player development and empowering athletes beyond the boundary. These ambitious youngsters serve as an inspiration to others on how you can shape your future and make a genuine difference along your journey. Whilst undergoing their school career, the ladies were included in the Lions Emerging Ladies cricket eco-system and powerful pipeline, where their skills were refined and their ambitions encouraged. At Lions Cricket, we are driven to grow people to Be their Best and Beat their Best.”

All three ladies are studying for a 3 year Bachelor of Business Administration and are products of the Soweto and Dobsonville hubs. The ladies were identified for the u16 age group camps, right through to the u19 camps, and have excelled ever since.

Lethabo Bildi is a middle order batting allrounder who’s secondary skill is off spin. Wicketkeeper Neo Molefe has become a household name, who loves to open the batting when not in the field. Thuto Thibedi is a bowling allrounder, with her primary skill being Leg spin and comes in to bat at number 8.

Both Neo and Lethabo ply their trade for Dobsonville Cricket Club, whilst Thuto plays represents Soweto Pioneers Cricket Club.

Thuto Thibedi said;

“I am grateful for the opportunity to study while pursuing a career in cricket. This opportunity will go in parallel to my cricket journey as it has always been my dream to study business administration and run a business one day.”

The bursary recipients have played their part in paving the way for the next generation, showing tomorrows stars that if you put your mind to it, absolutely anything is possible.
